By authority of the President of the United States, the Secretary of State has designated various categories of persons who are authorized to accept a passport application. One of those categories is the Clerk of the State Court of Record.

In accordance with the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central or South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda will require a passport after December 31, 2006. Also, all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel will require a passport after December 31, 2007.
